Genie Highlights New S-80 J Boom, Accessories at ConExpo

A new addition to the next generation of Genie S telescopic boom lifts, the Genie S-80 J model is a higher-reaching version of the recently introduced Genie S-60 J model.

Unveiled at ConExpo-Con/Agg in Las Vegas, these new Genie telescopic booms are right-sized for completing work-at-height applications and provide the performance that operators need to get work done at height from a jibbed boom. The Genie S-80 J model has an unrestricted platform capacity of 660 lbs. to get the job done with two occupants plus tools, and a 6-ft. jib, leading length and capacity for low-weight booms in this height category. With a platform height of 80 ft. and horizontal reach of 55 ft., this new boom provides operators with access where it’s needed — at the top of the envelope.

For increased jobsite productivity, the Genie S-80 J boom is lightweight enough at 23,000 lbs. to be equipped with the exclusive Genie four-point TraX patented track and axle system — the first and only boom model in the 80-ft. category to offer a tracked option. The Genie TraX system provides exceptional terrainability and lower contact pressure for reduced damage when operating in sensitive ground surfaces, such wet grass, mud, sand and snow, as well as on harder, uneven gravel, rock, concrete or asphalt-based surfaces.

“This second model introduction in the Genie essential performance boom line offers rental companies the opportunity to increase their rental return on invested capital (rROIC) by mixing their fleets with a variety of Genie booms, matching the right boom to the right application,” says Sean Larin, Genie product manager, Terex AWP.

The new boom features 4WD and active oscillating axles, which provides operators with true rough terrain performance, including no axle lock-out during elevated drive, on unfinished jobsites, and rough-terrain surfaces.

Equipped with a 49 hp Kubota D1803 turbo diesel engine, available in Tier 4 Final or Stage V, the model’s compact design, low-machine weight, and off-set boom stowing position gives rental companies the flexibility to combine this unit with other machines on a single trailer to maximum savings in transportation costs.

Meeting rental companies’ need for equipment with a low total cost of ownership, the single-envelope mast design on the Genie S-80 J telescopic boom speeds up inspections, maintenance, and repairs with fewer overall inspection points and wearable components, reducing costly downtime.

It comes standard with Genie digital load sense technology for accurate load weighing and zero-load field calibration, which means it adheres to the overload guidelines in the United States ANSI A92, the Canadian CSA B354, the European EN280, and the Australian AS 1418.10 standards.

Equipped with a modern CAN-based control system that provides information through the Genie Lift Connect telematics system, operators will find the control layout on the Genie S-80 J boom to be intuitive and consistent with other Genie booms, making the operation easy. It comes standard with a digital LCD screen at the ground controls, which provides real-time data and troubleshooting right on the machine. And to meet common jobsite safety requirements, this new model comes standard with the Genie Lift Guard Contact Alarm system.

Genie also released the new Genie Lift Tools 13-ft. platform, which affords less work time interruptions so boom lift operators can get more work done quickly and comfortably. Built for use in conjunction with Genie S-65 Xtra Capacity (XC) boom lifts, this new platform measures 13-ft. long by 3-ft. wide, has a capacity of 600 lbs., and is rated for two occupants, offering operators the benefit of accessing a much larger working area quickly and easily. It can be installed on any new and current Genie S-65 XC units and is available to order through the Genie aftermarket parts organization via gogenielift.com. This platform is currently certified for use in CE markets and will be ANSI certified by mid-2020.

The Genie Lift Tools 13-ft. platform is engineered with 14 lanyard anchor points, compared to eight points on the 8-ft. platform, to take full advantage of the larger work space. And for consistency within the Genie brand’s product offerings, this new accessory utilizes the same digital load sense system as all Genie XC booms.

Genie also announced the new Genie Lift Tools Spill Guard hydraulic containment system, designed to eliminate the time, complexity, and cost of installing traditional hydraulic diapers. It will be available globally as an option on the Genie GS-1330m scissor lift in mid-2020.

The electric-drive GS-1330m scissor lift features low noise, low emission, low weight, and low floor loading capabilities, and now, when equipped with the Genie Lift Tools Spill Guard accessory, it increases its already low environmental impact. The new Genie Lift Tools Spill Guard system is engineered to contain hydraulic leaks, preventing costly cleanup, as well as reducing the scissor lift’s total cost of ownership (TCO) and maintenance requirements by eliminating the installation and removal challenges associated with conventional hydraulic diapers. This new optional accessory can be ordered from the factory on new production units or as an aftermarket kit to retrofit units already in the field.
