The January Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Situation report revealed another strong month of job growth, with steady increases in the construction sector. Specialty construction dominated construction job growth with 26,300 positions added.
“Skilled employees are in high demand,” said Jack Jacobson, spokesperson for the Construction Employers of America. “Our apprenticeship and training programs are vital to ensure that construction employers have a quality labor market to access as demand in the specialty construction sector continues to grow.”
Nonresidential specialty trade contractors filled 12,400 positions in January while residential specialty contractors filled another 13,900 jobs. The unemployment rate held steady at 4.1 percent
“The construction industry is the backbone of middle class America,” stated Jacobson. “To keep our industry thriving and to drive economic growth across the country, we urge Congress and the Trump Administration to continue the important work they’re doing and pass a transformative public infrastructure program this year. Leveraging federal funds is important, but direct federal investment will be key to bringing many of the anticipated projects to fruition and putting blue collar Americans to work.”
