Bigge Equipment Co., San Leandro, Calif., will promote Chicago-based Standfast Corp.’s Travel Restraint Access Module (TRAM) movable fall restraint system, which enables employees to safely move on top of cranes. Bigge will offer TRAM sales, installation and product support in North America.
Suitable for telescopic and lattice boom cranes, overhead, gantry and tower cranes, the TRAM system uses a secure handhold at waist level that moves along a rail installed at foot-level along the length of the main boom. A lanyard or pair of lanyards attach to the handlebar and to the technician’s harness. By tying off at waist level, the TRAM user has no distance to fall in the event of a slip or trip. The system’s movable handlebar, which rotates 180° and folds down for storage, also provides support while walking along the boom of the crane.
Bigge’s first installation will be on a Terex AC 500, the largest telescopic boom crane in the fleet of its sister company Bigge Crane & Rigging Co.
Under the new OSHA Cranes & Derricks in Construction Rule, fall protection is required on all cranes above a height of 6 feet in the United States. For lattice boom cranes, fall protection is also required above a height of 6 feet, except when engaged in assembly/disassembly, where the threshold is 15 feet with the boom horizontal.
TRAM has been tested and certified by accredited laboratories as meeting all relevant international standards.
