CVTCorp, Montreal, Quebec, has launched the first production application of a high-power, efficient, cost-effective continuously-variable transmission.
The new transmission, named the Ecomec 150, is used in the Skyjack's new EcoShift telehandler, launched this week at the Rental Show in New Orleans.
The CVT's patented technology, the result of more than 15 years of development, offers off-highway manufacturers a fully validated and scalable solution simplifies operation, offers opportunity to downsize a machine's engine, and improves overall vehicle performance in the 20-30% range.
The Ecomec 150 allows the engine to deliver maximum power to the wheels at all times, and its high efficiency lets a vehicle do more work on less fuel.
Vehicle validation tests have already confirmed significant improvement in drawbar pull, compared to a vehicle equipped with a traditional powershift transmission.
The Ecomec 150's CVT characteristics and controls allow more productivity, more uptime, and more safety, while eliminating abuse by drivers.
Daniel Girard, CVTCorp CEO and founder, said that the market is ripe for a technology disruption, and CVTCorp's cost-effective Ecomec 150 is far superior to existing powershift or hydrostatic transmissions.
