Harley Wilson of Indianapolis, passed away January 9, 2016. Harley was born on January 8, 1944 to Laverne and Marvel Wilson. He attended Washington High School and IUPUI while honorably serving his country as a member of the Indiana National Guard.
In his early career, Wilson used his unique mechanical and problem-solving skills in the heavy-equipment industry and traveled the world providing unique solutions to problems within the crane and other large equipment industry. In response to the industry needs of a product that was slicker, stayed on and lasted longer, Harley and his wife Marilyn created and founded LUBE-A-BOOM friction reducing lubricant for telescopic cranes, aerial lifts, forklifts and a multitude of other types of equipment and applications.
Wilson was a member of Fifth Church of Christ Scientist of Indianapolis, an avid fisherman, explorer, mechanic, inventor of numerous watercraft devices, a U.S. Patent holder, and always actively seeking a friendly adventure of sorts. But most of all, Harley was a friend to all and gave endlessly of himself to others by always helping those around him as well as strangers in need.
Harley is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 49 years, Marilyn; sister, Juanita Sheridan and her husband Harry Sheridan II; nieces and nephews, Shirley James, Patty Brokaw, Luna White, Harry Sheridan, III, Larry Sheridan, Wally Sheridan and Christopher White; and his lifelong friend, Jim Imhausen.
The family is hosting a gathering to celebrate and commemorate Harley’s exemplary and distinctive life on Sunday, January 17, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel, 9900 Allisonville Rd., Fishers, IN 46038.
