The Carolinas Aviation Museum has selected J. Supor and Son Trucking and Rigging Co. Inc., Harrison, N.J., to move the US Airways “Miracle on the Hudson” Flight 1549 Airbus A-320 from Harrison to the museum in Charlotte, N.C.
“There are few firms in North America capable of moving this aircraft such a great distance overland and the difficulty should not be underestimated,” said Don Creason, board member of the Carolinas Aviation Museum. “Several other major firms vied for the job, but none could match the proven abilities of J. Supor & Son Trucking.”
The aircraft will remain in storage at the Supor Industrial Park, secured until the spring of 2011 when members of J. Supor Trucking and the Museum’s conservation team will prepare the aircraft for shipment to Charlotte. It is estimated to take from one week to ten days to transport the aircraft once the move gets underway. Depending upon the weather and other factors, the aircraft should arrive in Charlotte in June of 2011.
“We have been involved with Flight 1549 from the beginning, when Supor along with Weeks Marine were selected by the insurance company to recover, transport, and store the aircraft,” said Joe Supor III, president of J Supor and Son. “I am honored and proud of my employees’ extreme hard work and dedication which led to the success of this recovery mission. I know my father would be really proud to know that we have been entrusted with the care and transportation of such an important piece of history. This truly was a miracle and being a part of it was invaluable.”
