Kohler Tier 4 Final Engines Debuted at The Rental Show | Construction News

Kohler’s new KDI Tier 4 Final engines were among the products on display in the company’s exhibit at the American Rental Association’s recent Rental Show in Orlando, Fla.

The Kohler 1.9-liter and 2.5-liter engines meet Tier 4 Final emission levels without using a diesel particulate filter, thanks to Kohler’s 29,000-psi common-rail direct fuel injection, cooled exhaust-gas recirculation, and diesel oxidation catalyst after-treatment.

An electronic control unit with fuel mapping manages the engine’s power output.

The Kohler engines’ efficient use of fuel not only lets them run cleaner, it also improves fuel economy and helps make the KDI engines Kohler’s quietest diesels ever.

An integrated turbocharger helps the engines produce up to 221 lb. ft. of torque at 1,500 rpm.

In addition to being visible on the Kohler stand, Kohler diesel engines were also on display as components of other new products introduced at The Rental Show.

In the Terex display, was a key component of Terex AWP’s new Genie GS 4069-BE hybrid scissor lift. The GS 4069-BE is the first model in a new family of scissor lifts that operate on batteries, augmented by a 2.4-kW onboard diesel generator which charges the batteries and also provides AC power outlets on the chassis and platform. The onboard generator is powered by a  Kohler 6.7-hp Tier 4 Final diesel engine.

In the JCB exhibit, a 2.5-liter, 74-hp, Tier 4 Final, JCB Diesel by Kohler engine was at the heart of JCB’s new 525-60 Hi-Viz compact telehandler, which made its debut in the at The Rental Show. The engine in the 525-60 Hi-Viz telehandler also meets the Tier 4 Final clean-air standard without a diesel particulate filter or selective catalytic reduction, so the emission system needs no service.
