NYC Dangling Tower Crane Secured

New York City Department of Buildings reported that a luffing-jib tower crane, dangling over midtown Manhattan in the wake of a windstorm brought on by Hurricane Sandy last month, has been secured.  Crane owner Pinnacle Industries spend 36 hours turning the tower crane’s mast sideways so the 150-ft. boom could be tethered to the 90-story unfinished residential tower on which it is working.

Residents, who were evacuated six days earlier after the crane flipped over backwards, were allowed back into their apartments within a cordoned-off “frozen zone,” according to the New York Daily News. The crane flipped as winds peaked at 80 mph, and the boom swung precariously, but stayed tied to the mast.
