The SC&RA reports that a June 29th Construction Labor Report put out by Bloomberg BNA says that hazards related to forklifts, cranes, and combustible dust account for 60% of all general-duty clause citations under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
The SC&RA news said the Bloomberg report indicated that forklift hazards represented 26.4% of the 1,095 general-duty clause citations issued by OSHA from 2011 to 2013; crane hazards tallied 21.7%; and dust explosions 12%.
The Bloomberg report also said that forklift users were cited frequently for not using seatbelts and for using forklifts to improperly lift people.
The report listed other frequent general-duty-clause citations as: struck-by-vehicle hazards 10%; ladder falls 5.8%; PVC piping ruptures 5.4%; fires and explosions 5.4%; fall hazards 5%; automobile lifts and jacks 4.6%; and storage rack hazards 3.6%.
