PaR Nuclear, Inc. Shoreview, Minn., has partnered with Hutchinson Manufacturing (HMI) of Hutchinson, Minn., to form a joint venture company named NuCrane Manufacturing, LLC (NuCrane). NuCrane has broken ground on a new facility at HMI’s current site in Hutchinson. The joint venture will create some 50 new jobs.
NuCrane will fabricate, assemble and test specialty cranes for nuclear power plants, including the new Westinghouse-designed AP1000(TM) plants under construction in China and those planned for future construction in the U.S. According to a company press release, the joint venture also will enable Westinghouse to provide large cranes to the U.S. market, where there has been no new plant construction for more than 30 years.
NuCrane will complement Westinghouse subsidiary PaR Nuclear's capabilities to provide fuel-handling equipment, outage-critical cranes and service commercial nuclear power plants worldwide and will enable synergies between the two companies to achieve shorter plant outage durations.
“This partnership will provide Westinghouse the opportunity to manufacture cranes and specialty hoists in support of its AP1000 nuclear plant construction worldwide,” said Bill Burns, PaR Nuclear president. “The joint venture will also provide the capabilities to deliver modification and replacements for the current nuclear fleet. We are pleased to join with Hutchinson Manufacturing in our home state and look forward to working with a company that has more than 50 years of experience in heavy fabrication and machining," he added.
