Eagle West Wind Energy is providing construction services for the wind turbine offload, erection, electrical wiring and mechanical completion for the Cape Scott Wind Farm located at the Northern tip of Vancouver Island. The project consists of 55 Vestas V100 wind turbines and marks the first wind project installation on Vancouver Island. The first turbines arrived in March, and the project was wrapped up by end of June ahead of schedule, despite adverse weather conditions and difficult terrain.
Currently, all 55 towers have been fully erected. At the peak of the project, over 90 qualified employees were responsible for the installation of the wind farm. They used seven cranes including an Liebherr Models LG 1550 and LR 1400-2W. In total, more than 880 lifts and 70,000 man hours were required for the work, and the team has not had any major safety-related incidents.
The wind farm is scheduled to be operational in October and will be producing up to 99MW of green energy providing enough electricity to power approximately 30,000 homes annually.
