Terex Utilities Launches New Equipment-Focused Training Workshops

Terex Utilities has introduced new Maintenance Training Workshops to replace its traditional annual Service School. The workshops are designed specifically for mechanics who service Terex Digger Derricks and Hi-Ranger bucket trucks.

The shift from a single annual event to multiple focused sessions allows for in-depth, hands-on training on individual equipment types.

The first two workshops of the year focused on the Hi-Ranger Optima bucket truck in January and digger derricks in early March, attracting participants from across the country, including states such as Maine and Nebraska.

“We changed the format of the Service School into multiple workshops so we can solely focus on one subject with a smaller group,” said Kenny Vlasman, customer service manager at Terex Utilities.

“At past Service Schools, we received multiple comments from participants on equipment models they don’t have in their fleet, which made that particular station not applicable.”

The revised format is intended to provide mechanics with training that directly applies to the equipment in their fleets.

Topics covered in the workshops include:

  • Reading and using load charts
  • Performing periodic inspections
  • Troubleshooting  Power Take-Off issues
  • Changing the direction of a pump
  • Conducting leakage tests on outriggers

“Regardless of their experience level, the technicians walk away with more knowledge and experience,” Vlasman added.

Feedback from attendees has been highly positive, especially regarding the hands-on learning experience.

One participant noted, “This seminar utilizes both hands on and visual learning … I enjoyed all of it.”

Additional workshops planned for 2025 will cover digger derricks, distribution aerials and the Hi-Ranger aerial device. Seats are limited, and Terex Utilities has announced plans to expand the workshop series into 2026.
